Development of e-liga software for Liga Portuguesa de Futebol

Per season, there are more than 900 matches played. There are reports generated with information from referees, match delegates, players, coaches, and people involved in a professional football match.

Until the 2014/2015 season, the match reports were created manually by each stakeholder involved in the game and then sent via fax to Liga Portugal headquarters. Afterward, all the information was checked and confirmed using paper and pen.

That was a long process, as it required an opinion from all stakeholders involved in the game, such as delegates, team representatives, players, referees, police forces, firefighters, emergency services, and administrative staff. In this lengthy process, information could leak as the reports circulated through several organizations and stages until they reached their final destination.

In the context of the change to digital processes, it was imperative to improve the efficiency of procedures and ensure the security of all information to prevent possible breaches.

In this sense, we developed the software for mobile devices, enabling tablets and smartwatches to produce the necessary reports, which we now call the e-Liga.

We carefully analyzed all the processes and needs of the various stakeholders in the production of the reports until reaching the final version of the interface, the e-Liga software that we now know.

With an intuitive and easy-to-use interface that effectively saves time for all parties involved, e-Liga has become an extremely safe tool with no leaks, increasing the reliability of the information obtained.

With e-Liga, each stakeholder in the game can now, in real-time, write down all the relevant information about the match. All the info converges into a PDF hosted on the Liga secure server infrastructure when the game finishes.

We tested this tool during the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons in several first and second league matches and fully implemented it in the 2016 and 2017 Taça da Liga finals.
